Adigrat University conducted an award ceremony

Adigrat University conducted an award ceremony for 25 female students who have been found with academic status of very great distinction. They were awarded from 300-500Birr and certificate for each of them. The ceremony was organized by Gender office of the University and it was lead by the head of the office –W/t Selemawit Teklu. In her opening speech, w/t Selemawit said that the University would like to express its appreciation to those students’ achievement. The president of the University, Dr.Zaid Negash who gave the reward also said the objective of the ceremony is to give recognition and appreciation to females students with highest academic achievement and this award will continue until graduation. He also advised the whole students to follow those high achievers through hard work and dedication.

Adigrat University Conducted a Workshop on Quality of Education

Adigrat University organized a half day workshop on Improving the Quality of Mathematics and Science Education. At the workshop, Woreda Education office heads, school directors and mathematics and science teachers from 24 secondary schools of the Eastern Zone, and members of the university community were involved. Ato Teklebrhan Berhe presented a proposal designed to undertake research on quality of education. Before the presentation, Dr.Zaid welcomed the participants and this was followed by an opening address by Ato Gebre Kahsay, vice Administrator of the Eastern Zone. Ato Gebre, after commending the efforts of the University in supporting the community, indicated that ensuring quality of education needs a strong commitment and a continuous consorted effort from all stakeholders. Following the presentation, the stage was open for discussion. During the discussions problems, challenges and the way forward have been indicated. The participants have finally reached a consensus that the schools need to be aware about the challenges and make an optimal effort and commitment for the improvement of the quality of education in their respective schools and beyond. It is also recommended that the University has to work with the schools.

Sport Shoes Donation

 

Mr. Tesfay Haile who lives in Saudi-Arabia donated 24 pairs of quality shoes to Adigrat University. This is only one example of the support the University has been receiving from various individuals and groups as an expression of their commitment to help development efforts taking place in the country. Having visited the University, Mr.Tesfay has also expressed his willingness to extend further support.

Adigrat University staff members presented 20 research proposals on a research defense day

Recently, the University has conducted a successful workshop on proposal writing. The workshop was followed by a call for proposals. Based on this call, twenty proposals were submitted to the research council of the University. The council, after evaluating the proposals, has arranged this one day defense session. The defense was opened by Dr. Alem Mebrahtu, vice president for academics, research and community services of the University. The vice president, after welcoming the reviewers, the presenters and participants to the first research proposal defense in the University, stated that research is one of the main duties of the University with the prime aim of solving problems, and should be a culture for the University community. It has been also stated that the results of the evaluation for the proposals and the defense will be announced soon. Finally it is known that fund will be assigned to the best proposals and research will be launched shortly.

Adigrat University conducted workshop on proposal writing

Adigrat University has organized a half day workshop on basic proposal writing skills to its staff members. The workshop was opened by Dr. Zaid Negash, the president of the University, and has been conducted by Dr. Alem Mebrahtu, the vice president for academics, research and community services. In his opening speech, the President stated that the University is determined to make its staff competent in research and community service undertakings by providing them with such training events in the University and elsewhere. He encouraged staff members to attend the workshop attentively and submit proposals which will be funded from the University’s recurrent budget assigned for research. On the other hand, the vice president of the University in his closing speech stressed that this workshop was warming up session aimed at motivating the young staff of the University to prepare and submit proposals. It has been learnt that the workshop created a strong motivation on the staff to involve in research. The event was attended by nearly 80 staff members of the University.

Dr. Teklemariam Wubneh has recently paid a visit to Adigrat University.

Dr. Teklemariam Wubneh has recently paid a visit to Adigrat University. Dr. Teklemariam (a.k.a Dr. Tech) has been associated with the university system for a long time and accumulated vast experience in teaching and administration. Among others, he has served as a Director of the International Programs and Services (IPS) at the Middle Tennessee State University, USA, (see http//www.mtsu.edu). During his visit to Adigrat University, he conducted discussions with the President and Vice President. He was impressed by the progress shown so far by this young University and pledged to provide profound support to help enable the university realize its vision. He was also given a tour of the university’s main campus.

Adigrat University got a vice president

It has been three months now since the University began its normal academic activities. The academic and administrative staff members of the University are increasing from time to time. The latest addition to the list is Dr.Alem Mebrahtu, vice president for Academic and Research. Before joining Adigrat University, Dr. Alem was working as the Dean of the college of Natural and computational Sciences at Mekelle University.

Dr. Amare Retta and Halka G/slassie together visited Adigrat University

Dr. Amare Retta and Halka G/slassie together with their sons and daughters visited Adigrat University they observed dormitories, administration buildings, students’ café and the whole campus. After visiting, they felt happy and Dr. Amare Retta said “we’ll be on the side of theUniversity bothmentallyand economically”, besides to this, Haleka G/slassie said, “We are really glad because of this University and we’ll help the University in providing books and other similar proprieties.”

Class on Progress

The maiden batch of students at Adigrat University have started attending class.

Orientation and Department Choice

College level orientation has been given to all students of the University on Friday Dec. 09/2011. Following these orientations, students were provided with formats in which they will have to fill in their departmental choices. Engineering students did not have to make department choices at the moment as they will have to stay at the level of ‘Pre-engineering’ for a semester after which they will be required to pick their preferences.  Explanations have been given, instead, to Engineering students on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) which will be applied beginning from the current semester

Adigrat University officially opened

Adigrat University marked its official opening ceremony by welcoming its first students on Tuesday Dec. 06/2011 (Hidar 26/2004 E.C.). Residents of the beautiful city of Adigrat from all walks of life who participated in the ceremony expressed their profound joy on the opening of the University and extended their warm welcome to the students. The celebration went on for the entire day which included speeches from the University president, city mayor, religious leaders, community members, students, and the guest of honor.  The afternoon session was accompanied by an entertaining music band and it was full of chanting and dancing by students and the University community. The University admitted 960 students in Engineering, Natural and Computational Sciences, Business and Economics, and Social Sciences.(Click here for more)

Adigrat University Conducted Induction Training to its Academic Staff

Adigrat University has organized an induction training for about 90 instructors from September30, 2011- October 2, 2011 by the institute of pedagogical studies (IPS) of Mekele University. The training was focused on large classroom and diversity management, Assessment and grading, Active learning and teaching strategies and Anti sexual harassment policy implementation at higher learning institution. Instructors of the University actively participated during the training.

The new website which is launched on 17/01/2004 E.C incorporates comprehensive information related to Academic, Research, and Web Information about each department under the five Colleges.The website will be updated every time in consultation with the respective department in collaboration with office of ICT Development Office.
