Adigrat University Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kentucky StateUniversity


Adigrat University and Kentucky State University signed a memorandum of understanding which will enable both universities work together. The two universities have been in contact since few months back. Realizing the fact that both institutions can benefit from their collaborative works, the Kentucky State University has taken the initiative to visit Adigrat University by a delegation of seven senior staff members. The document has been signed Dr. Zaid Negash, President of Adigrat University, Adigrat, Tigray, Ethiopia and Dr. Mary Sias President of Kentucky State University Frankfurt, Kentucky 40601, USA

Both universities have agreed to encourage cultural programs and experience exchanges to increase knowledge and participation of their respective societies. Academically, both institutions have agreed to make efforts to promote and develop cooperation between their institutions mainly in the following activities based on the principles of equality and reciprocity:

  • Exchange of students and offering of internships
  • Exchange of faculty members and research fellows
  • Exchange of academic programs, materials, publications and information, and
  • Develop joint proposals for funding for joint research, faculty/student development, and other community service and out reach programs

During the MoU signing ceremony held in Adigrat this month both institutions have expressed their readiness to implement the contents of the MoU as much as possible and accomplish and exemplary work. The agreement a great achievement for the young Adigrat University and is anticipated to promote and support the attainment of the three pillars the University namely: teaching learning, research and community services.

Adigrat University has been Officially Inaugurated by HE Ato Demeke Mekonen and HE Ato Abay Woldu


Adigrat University has been inaugurated officially by HE Ato Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and HE Ato Abay Woldu, President of the Tigray National Regional Government on December 1, 2012 in a highly colorful and impressive day of inauguration. The city residents welcomed HE Ato Demeke by standing on both side of the main square of the city. City residents, school students, elderly people, federal and regional officials and the University top management were among the people who welcomed the Deputy Prime Minster. Adigrat University Conduct its 1st National Conference on Cactus (Beles) or OPUNTIA


Adigrat University has conducted its 1st National Conference on Cactus (Beles) or OPUNTIA on December 1, 2012 (Hidar 22/2005EC). The conference has been opened by HE Ato Tadesse Haile State Minster of the Ministry of Industry of the FDRE. In the conference seven papers has been presented by different scientists from all over the nation which was followed by a panel discussion. The papers focused on the history, biology and socio economic values Beles as well as the challenges the wonderful fruit is facing particularly in Sothern Tigray Beles. Finally the conference came to an end with a strong recommendation for the establishment of an Institute of Beles at Adigrat University as soon as possible.For the details of the Conference please click here

Adigrat University is to conduct its 1st National Conference on Cactus (Beles) or OPUNTIA


Adigrat University is going to conduct its 1st National Conference on Cactus (Beles) or OPUNTIA as it is called scientifically on December 1, 2012 (Hidar 22/2005EC). The conference will be conducted side by side with inauguration of Ceremony of the University, the 1st Anniversary of the University which is dated on Hidar 26 and the Hidar 29 Nations and Nationalities and People of Ethiopia National Day.For the details of the Conference pleaseclick here

Memorandum of Understanding signed with Texas Tech University


Adigrat University and Texas Tech University signed a MoU on July 02/2012. The signing of the MoU was part of a visit by a delegation from various Universities in the United States to Ethiopian Universities. The document was signed between his Excellency former Ambassador of the US to Ethiopia Tibor P. Nagy, Vice Provost for International Relations at Texas Tech University, and Dr. Zaid Negash, President of Adigrat University. The MoU covers wider areas of partnership including to ‘exchange information, faculty, and students in both academic and research programs’ and to ‘explore ways and means to finance joint projects through special government and other funding sources.

The signing of the MoU serves as an entry point for a cooperation that is expected to flourish and get realized through further efforts on both sides. During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Tibor and Dr. Zaid expressed their readiness to enhance collaboration between their sister universities in broader areas of interest. The agreement is anticipated to promote attainment of the mission of Adigrat University in areas of academics, research and community services.
