Mission

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) is committed to producing Competent and Compassionate Health professionals through quality education, problem-based research, and relevant community services to meet the hiatus in societal needs.

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences strives to become one of the leading health institutions in education, health service provision, and research by 2030.

Our Work

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) has started the construction of a referral teaching hospital at a place called Nihibi near the Miwtsae werki campus. We are currently using Adigrat General Hospital as a teaching hospital and our academic staff are giving community service in Adigrat General Hospital.

CMHS has already established an in-service training center and will take the responsibility of supporting the health system of the country in general and the region in particular by providing quality training. Community service is among the three pillar activities of the University. Through this wing, CMHS will not only provide training; but in addition it will also support the nearby health facilities by engaging its instructors in the facilities and by supporting logistics (medical equipment) to selected health facilities as well as through TTP and CBTP has been providing outreach health services for about 50,000 households in five sites (Agulae, Freweyni, Hawzen, Edaga hamus, Adigrat town and Fatsi).Besides, our college is finalizing to own a CPD (continuous professional development) center that will enable us to provide training on capacity building of health professionals.

Alongside research activities are being undertaken by our various departments. With the yearly enrollment capacity increasing in its undergraduate programs, the CMHS has been striving a lot to diversify its academic programs. In 2016, the College successfully got the School of Medicine recognized as a full-fledged School, formally endorsed by AGU’s Administrative Board. Currently, the College offers about 9 undergraduate degrees and two postgraduate programs. Our College is comprised of:

Our Background

Based on the national health policy demand, long-term plan of the government, and mandate given to the Higher education Institutions to train competent professionals for the development of the country Adigrat University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences was established in October 2012 G.C; the college hosted 142 undergraduate students as first batch in the fields of Nursing, Public Health, Midwifery and Medical students. Subsequently, to compensate for the increasing demand for trained healthcare personnel in 2014, the department of pharmacy was opened along with the department of psychiatry. Currently, the college has accepted and enrolled 1204 students in regular programs and 372 summer and extension students in six fields among those 41.2% are female students.
