Adigrat University College of Medicine and Health Sciences; is found in the Northern part of the country in Adigrat town. Adigart is located 898 km north of the capital Addis Ababa and 115 km North of Mekelle, the capital of Tigray National Regional State, in the Eastern zone of Tigray and 35 km to the border south of Eritrea. The town is situated at 2400-2500 meters above sea level. The town has 350-550 ml average annual rainfall and a minimum and maximum temperature of 4 0C and 25 0C respectively. Adigrat town is one of the high land areas of the country. The town has over 66,384 residents. According to the municipality’s report, 95.32% of them are from the Tigray nation and the rest are from Erope, Saho, and other nations/nationalities. Most of the town’s residents are Orthodox Christians. The rest are Muslims, Catholics, and Protestants in which all of them have peaceful co-existence. Adigrat University (AdU) established College of Medicine and Health Science (CMHS) in 2013 with a primary goal of contributing to the sustainable socioeconomic development and poverty reduction program of the nation through provision of societal needs tailored education of health professionals, undertaking problem-solving research and providing community service in nearby Adigrat hospital and other health facilities.
