Department of Architecture Engineering
The Department of Architecture at Adigrat University is a peculiar set of diligent scholars who establish platforms to their imaginative students to explore the contextual and spatial setup of their environment alongside contemporary design approaches to understand the physical realm with collaborative endeavors to produce essential works which are important in the academic arena. with the exception of its location on one of the most culturally and historically rich sites as a potential; Experts on the Field of studies including landscape, urban planning, and building technology are few mentions among our staff members who operate in an associative manner to assist their students on a fairly consistent level. The architectural education program in our country has miles to go to achieve a worldwide perspective and it is our keen interest to see our students change the minds of the collective towards the physical fabrics of our built environment with its sustainability issues. This cognitive operation has been carried out by the department since 2007 E.C/2014 G.C. Generally the department begun its teaching venture with 45 student and, Architecture department is categorized under the college of engineering and technology and its staff members and students are part of the university’s large society which work in integration to achieve its intention of producing highly qualified and competent graduates who are capable of serving the country and its people.
Vision
The department aspires to be established as an independent design school within the university by advancing through technology and exceptional teaching methodologies. It is our ambition to set the milestones for teaching a revolutionized designing and building system which is fitted to its context furthermore to serve as a center of excellence for other Architectural education institutions in Ethiopia. The department is also committed to creating global educational platforms that assist the sharing of experience and collaborate its students with other global communities of students to participate in an enticing and challenging project that benefit the collective.
Mission
Adigrat University Architecture Department’s mission is to foster the advancement of innovative designs by students that address complex local, national as well as global environmental problems. The department is dedicated to educating future generations of inquisitive minds, creative designers and ethical professionals. Several programs are being delivered by the department such as Architectural Design, History of Architecture and Urban Design that promotes social awareness and consciousness through ongoing educational engagement for creating tailor-made physical environment which is friendly to the contextual transformative dynamic. It performs the duty to educate students based on the Ethiopian national education policy which highlights the development of problem-solving capacity and culture in the context of education, curriculum structure, and approach, focusing on the acquisition of scientific knowledge and practicum. In the long run, the department’s mission can be generalized under the following core points.

Educational approach
The educational approach focuses on the importance of teaching methodologies in delivering the educational aspects of tasks assigned to produce Holistic design and presentation techniques. some methodologies include Lectures, Seminar, Study and site Visit.
