Research and community engagement
Adigrat University is one of the comprehensive higher learning institutions mandated to produce qualified and competent graduates in undergraduate and post-graduate studies, undertake thematized research, and provide community engagement, consultancy service, and social responsibilities. The University’s thematized research, demand-driven community engagement, consultancy services, and social responsibilities contribute to the socio-economic development of the community and the nation. The research projects at Adigrat University are categorized into internally-funded thematic research and externally-funded projects. Besides its internally-funded projects, the University has various externally-funded projects which are being carried in collaboration with different national and international institutions or organizations. The University strives to sustainably strengthen its institutional collaboration to increase the research and development projects, community engagement, consultancy services, and social responsibilities aimed to solve real societal problems and increase revenue generation. To this end, the university is committed to become a center of innovation, technology development, adoption, and transfer which could contribute to solving societal problems and support the country’s economic growth.
Digital transformation for better services
As part of digital transformation plan, the university has introduced an online system known as Digital Research and Community Services Data Management System (DRCSDMS) in September 2024. The DRCSDMS is aimed to make the research and community service processes fully online. The submission and reporting of research and community service projects is processed through the DRCSDMS. It is developed based on the step-by-step research and community service guideline of the university.

Community engagement, social responsibilities and consultancy services
The university has been providing various community engagement projects, social responsibilities, and consultancy to the community which can be demand-driven or designed by the university, colleges/school, or centers in collaboration with stakeholders to solve real societal problems. These are funded either from the treasury fund or in collaboration with partners.

Capacity building/training
The University provides various training to its faculties which strengthens its operations mainly relevant to the key reform agendas in higher education including differentiation, thematized research, curriculum revision and program accreditation, digitalization, and others. The university has one institute and five centers are aimed to undertaking thematized research, thematized and demand-driven community engagement and social responsibilities. These include:
