College of Social sciences and Humanities
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) is one of the earliest colleges established at Adigrat University in July 2011. It began with four departments and has since expanded to eleven academic departments, including Archaeology and Heritage, Civic and Ethical Studies, English Language and Literature, Geography and Environmental Studies, Governance and Development, Journalism and Communication, Psychology, Sociology, Teachers’ Education, Theatre Arts, and Tigrigna Language, Literature and Folklore. The College offers undergraduate programs across all departments, while Geography and Environmental Studies and Sociology currently run postgraduate programs. The Department of English Language and Literature is also prepared to begin postgraduate studies pending approval. The College hosts several centers that support research and community service, such as the Center for Archaeology and Tourism, the Center for Cross-Border Peace and Security Studies, and the English Language Improvement Center, with two additional centers in progress. Since 2013, CSSH has maintained a strong record of graduating students in regular and summer programs. The number of academic staff has also grown from 18 to more than 150, reflecting the College’s expansion and academic development.
