Department of Statistics

Overview

Adigrat University is one of the public universities that was founded in 2011 G.C. One year later, the Department of Statistics was established under the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, having three instructors and forty-one students. Since its establishment in the year 2012 G.C., about 300 students have graduated. Currently, the department is teaching regular undergraduate students by having nine active instructors and two lab technical assistants. Therefore, the department is striving to produce qualified professionals expected to serve the country. The department is committed to excellence in teaching and learning activities, conducting scientific research, and participating in community services, which emphasize the systematic study and application of statistical methods to address real-world problems.

Vision:

  • The department of statistics is striving to become one of the best centers of excellence in education and statistical research by the coming 2030 G.C.

Goal 1. Improve student participation and promote student success

  • Motivate project-based learning and collaborate with real-world data sets.
  • Create interactive and practical learning environments using statistical methodologies.
  • Create initiatives for students to participate in internships and statistical software’s for data analysis to develop critical skills.

Goal 2. Improve academic quality

  • Develop modern teaching resources, including well-equipped training labs.
  • Establish academic advisory systems to guide students effectively.
  • Strengthen association with research institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Improve teaching methodologies with professional training for staff.

Goal 3. Improve research and community service activities

  • Identify thematic areas that emphasize national and regional priorities.
  • Participate in statistical consultation services for university communities and local communities.
  • Organize capacity-building trainings for high schools in the community and government agencies to improve skills of data analysis.
