Department of Public Health
The Department of Public Health at Adigrat University, within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of populations through education, research, and community service. Our department focuses on the systematic study of health determinants, disease prevention, health promotion, and the development of effective health policies and systems. We are committed to developing and delivering a modern, effective curriculum for undergraduate students in Public Health, equipping them with the skills to address complex health challenges. The department is staffed by a team of highly qualified and dedicated academic staff who are experts in various fields of public health, all performing their duties to the highest capacity.

Goal 1. Enhancing Student Competence and Professional Success
- We foster a dynamic learning environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and the development of essential public health competencies. Through practical field experiences and transformative learning, we prepare students to become proud, well-rounded, and effective public health professionals.
Goal 2. Strengthen Academic Quality and Relevance
- Develop and modernize the public health curriculum to meet national and global health standards.
- Establish and upgrade public health laboratories and simulation centers for practical skills development.
- Plan and conduct regular analysis on education quality assurance and relevance.
- Offer continuous pedagogical and professional development training for faculty and staff.
- Establish a robust academic advisory system to guide and support students.
- Forge local, national, and international collaborations for research, training, and student exchanges.
Goal 3. Enhance Research and Community Service Impact
- Identify and prioritize key public health research thematic areas (e.g., Epidemiology, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Health Systems Management).
- Conduct community-based participatory research to address local health needs.
- Organize and implement health promotion, disease prevention, and screening campaigns in collaboration with local communities and health bureaus.
- Develop directives and programs to support and strengthen nearby primary healthcare units.
