Department of Information Technology
The Department of Information Technology is part of the College of Engineering and Technology. It was initially established in 2005 E.C. as a joint department with Computer Science. However, in April 2008 E.C., the two fields were separated into distinct departments: the Department of Information Technology and the Department of Computer Science.
The Department of Information Technology was established in alignment with the vision and mission of the university to support the national development goals of the country. Since its inception in 2005 E.C., the department has successfully graduated more than five cohorts of students. These graduates have gone on to contribute significantly to various sectors, including education, government, private industry, and entrepreneurship. The department continues to strive for academic excellence by offering quality education, promoting research and innovation, and addressing the growing demand for skilled IT professionals in the digital era.
As a department, nearly all staff members are highly motivated to engage in research, community service, and the development of practical systems aimed at improving the university’s operations and advancing their own professional competencies. These efforts not only foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning but also contribute significantly to the academic and social development of students. Through active research and outreach, the department supports evidence-based decision-making, offers real-world solutions to local and national challenges, and strengthens the link between academia and the community. This commitment brings multifaceted benefits: it enhances the university’s reputation, contributes to national development goals, and equips students with hands-on experiences, making them more competitive in the job market and more capable of addressing societal needs.
