The office of students’ dean is one of the supportive department units in Adigrat University. It has been organized under office of vice president for administration and development. The mission of the office is to deliver students quality and timely services such as: food, housing, medication, counseling and entertainment, thus supporting to facilitate the academic process.
Currently, the office has a total of 186 permanent staff members; 141 of them are female employees. They work with the motives that the university shall provide services to students at least parallel to the level of formerly established universities have reached, and it has begun to come TRUE.
Students, who enrolled for 2011/12 academic year, are our first students in the history of the university. They were 960 in number, 63% of them were female students. The university intake capacity has increased four times in one year age. Today we have more than 4000 students who use our service. The office delivers the following services to regular students during their stay in the campus. These includes: food service, housing service, medical service, counseling service, entertainment and sporting services.
It delivers regular students fresh meals three times a day. It also serves special meals to students who have faced health problem as per health professional recommendations. Follow-ups on the quality, quantity and time of delivery of food are continuously made by head of food service and food committee. The service unit has progressively been equipped with staff and basic facilities.
The university is providing students housing service in its own building since the first batch. Each dormitory blocks has the necessary facilities: potable water, electricity, shower and toilet, TV- room in which there has been? installed 40 inch LCD color televisions? with satellite dishes and decoders; besides there is also DStv channel in the cafeteria hall . Every room has been equipped with two double beds, two double shelves, two tables and four chairs. ?Four students dwell in each room. Clothe washing basins and clothe- dry frames are also in use. Proctors are serving students as guardians in the dorms together with block and floor masters.
Besides, the university is trying to access the students to sporting facilities.
It is offering students medical service at clinic level. The clinic has been well organized with the basic materials, medical equipments and competent staff. Besides the clinical service, the health staffs supervise and comment on the hygiene and sanitation status of the dormitory blocks and students’ cafeteria. The university has also agreed with Adigrat Hospital to give the students referral service. The university ambulance gives service for 24 hours.
Students are given guidance and counseling services to solve their psychological issues. The students are also reached by organizing trainings focusing on the above issues and by posting of tips every two weeks.
Students’ affairs service
Students’ social and economic affairs are managed under this working unit. Promoting rules and regulations of the university is also the task of students’ affairs. They work to prevent students from committing disciplinary faults in advance. It works with integration to respected offices such as the Gender office.
